A Vancouver resident was among at least six people injured in a crash Saturday afternoon near Banks, Ore.

Oregon State Police released details and accident photos Sunday morning.

Louis P. Berchier, 68, of Vancouver, and a passenger whose identity was not released were taken to a hospital after the accident, which occurred about 12:40 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 6 and Northwest Gales Creek Road in rural Washington County.

Also reported injured were four people riding in the bed of a 1993 GMC extended cab pickup. None of the injuries were critical, according to police.

Police said Berchier was driving his Volvo eastbound on Highway 6 when the pickup’s driver pulled into his path.

The pickup’s driver, Joel R. Silva, 18, of Forest Grove, Ore., was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device and being a minor in possession of alcohol. Alcohol consumption, however, was not believed to be a factor in the accident.

The highway was closed about four hours during the investigation.
