WISHRAM — Crews responded Tuesday to a fire on the eastern portion of Miller Island in the Columbia River Gorge.

Firefighters used a low-intensity burn to consume the fuel and stop the fire inside a control line.

The large island is part of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area opposite the mouth of the Deschutes River. The Forest Service said Wednesday the forward spread of the fire has stopped and that the burned area is 513 acres.
