A two-alarm fire heavily damaged a house on Northeast 72nd Avenue in Vancouver late Saturday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 4:26 p.m. at 14114 N.E. 72nd Ave., in the Pleasant Highlands neighborhood north of Barberton.

Crews approaching the scene reported seeing heavy black smoke. Upon arriving, firefighters were told that people might still be inside the building and began a search.

They later learned that everyone had gotten out of the house safely.

Two dogs remained unaccounted for, said Vancouver Fire Department Capt. Drew Tracy.

Clark County Fire & Rescue, Fire District 6 and Fire District 3 also responded.

The owner of the house is listed in county property records as Linda Fox. The house was built in 1940.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
