BATTLE GROUND — Northwest Battle Buddies, a nonprofit that pairs dogs with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, will have enough money to train a new dog, thanks to a donation from the Royal Oaks Country Club.

It typically costs between $12,000 and $15,000 to train a new Battle Buddy. The country club agreed Tuesday to fully sponsor a new dog.

Dog trainer Shannon Walker, owner of Man’s Best Friend kennel and training facility in Battle Ground, trains and boards the animals before they’re sent home with veterans.

The nonprofit said it was thankful for the donation.

Northwest Battle Buddies’ services have grown in popularity since the program began last year; more than 50 veterans are on its waiting list.
