The Vancouver Police Department traffic unit continues to investigate a crash early on Saturday morning that sent two men to an area hospital with injuries.

Glicerio Zurita, 35, of Vancouver was driving a Chevrolet van east on Kansas Street. He took a left onto Andresen Road and collided with a southbound Mazda MX-3.

The driver of the Mazda, Matthew McCarthy, 28, of Vancouver was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He was in satisfactory condition on Monday.

Zurita was also taken to PeaceHeath, where he was treated and released.

The cause of the crash, reported about 3:15 a.m., remains under investigation but detectives say that speed is being considered a factor, said Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact traffic detectives by calling the agency’s west precinct office at 360-487-7355.
