Norwich City at Timbers

Kickoff: 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jeld-Wen Field.

TV/radio: No TV / AM 750.

Tickets: www.portlandtimbers.com; 503-553-5555. This game is part of the season-ticket package, but tickets are available.

Timbers story: This is the second of two international friendlies on the Timbers 2013 schedule. On July 3, they beat Mexican top-division club Morelia 1-0 on a Futty Danso penalty kick. This match falls between MLS road games at Philadelphia and San Jose, so it is likely Portland will field a squad of players unlikely to start on Saturday at San Jose. This a chance for players such as Sal Zizzo, Jose Valencia, Ryan Miller, Rauwshan McKenzie, Alvas Powell to play against a quality opponent.

Last summer the Timbers and Aston Villa played to a 2-2 draw. In 2011, West Bromwich Albion beat Portland 3-2.

Norwich City: This is the final match on a three-game United States visit for the Canaries. Norwich City beat the Mexican club Dorados 3-0 in Sacramento, then lost 1-0 on Saturday to the San Jose Earthquakes. Norwich City is preparing for its third consecutive season n the Premier League after finishing 11th among the 20 clubs in 2012-13. Founded in 1902, the club first reached the top division of English professional soccer in 1972. It was one of the original Premier League clubs in 1992-93, and led the league for much of that season before finishing third.Five offseason additions are on the Norwich roster for this trip. They are striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkle (who made his first Canaries appearance at San Jose), midfielder Leroy Fer, 19-year-old winger Nathan Redmond, Defender Martin Olsson and goalkeeper Carlo Nash. Scottish international Robert Snodgrass had six goals and six assists in league play last season. Irish international Wes Hoolahan and Ghanaian midfielder Alexander Tettey are other prominent players on the trip. Norwich City opens its 2013-14 season on Aug. 17 against Everton.
