Washougal — Hundreds of Washougal School District students and their guardians have been eating lunch for free this summer thanks to an U.S. Department of Agriculture grant program aimed at healthy dining. Lunches continue to be available from 11: 45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 16 at Hathaway Elementary School. District Curriculum Director David Tudor said that 460 people were fed in the first week of the program, which kicked off on July 8. The USDA grant only let those 18 and younger eat for free, but donations from food provider Sodexo and the local church community means there’s enough food to not only feed children, but adults who accompany them.
