Letter: Representative failing constituents

I am a recipient of regular emails from U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, and I just received her email which touted her accomplishments and the bills upon which she has voted. She chose not to include that she voted for the 2013 Federal Agricultural Reform and Risk Management Act, which gave taxpayer subsidies to big agribusiness and massively cut nutritional assistance programs to the elderly, children, and the poor as well as to the lower-ranking soldiers with families — all of whom depend on this assistance. I can only assume that not informing her constituents about her vote means she is not proud of it.

At the least, we deserve transparency from Herrera Beutler. At the most, we deserve that her votes support not just the wealthy but all Washingtonians, including our soldiers who sacrifice so much. This vote indicates her loyalties lie with the wealthiest and her party’s line. She is not a good representative for us.
