PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills are preparing to open training camp without Jairus Byrd, and without any indication when the two-time Pro Bowl safety plans to report.

General manager Doug Whaley says “hopefully soon,” a day before the Bills hold their first practice in suburban Rochester. Whaley, however, acknowledged that Byrd and his agent, Eugene Parker, have not informed the Bills of their intentions.

Contract talks are at a stalemate.

The Bills retained Byrd’s rights in March, when they designated him their franchise player by offering him a one-year, $6.9 million contract. Byrd has not accepted the offer, and is not required to attend training camp because he is unsigned.

Whaley says Byrd will be welcomed with “open arms” once he reports.
