DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera was ejected while batting with the bases loaded in the third inning of Sunday’s game against Philadelphia after he appeared to say something to home plate umpire Chad Fairchild.

Manager Jim Leyland was also ejected in the ensuing argument.

Cabrera was batting with one out when he took two called strikes. He appeared to say something to Fairchild, although not in a demonstrative fashion. After Cabrera was tossed, Leyland came out of the dugout and was also thrown out. Leyland continued to argue for a while before leaving the field.

Fairchild was also the plate umpire in Detroit’s July 11 game against the Chicago White Sox, when Leyland and Detroit reliever Luke Putkonen were ejected amid a bench-clearing incident.
