WENATCHEE — Two big wildfires that started last week continue to burn on the east side of the Cascades in Washington.
Fire managers say about 1,300 firefighters are trying to control a fire that has burned about 32 square miles around Satus Pass and closed Highway 97 between Goldendale and Toppenish.
Nearly 300 firefighters are working at a wildfire that has burned about 66 square miles southeast of Wenatchee in the Colockum Pass area. The fire has burned five homes and several outbuildings. Dozens of residences have been evacuated.
A community meeting was held Monday night at the fire station in Malaga. The Wenatchee World reports about 60 people at the meeting were told the fire is contained on the north side but it could continue growing west and south.
