Alexa Efraimson of Camas girls track and field was voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for the week of May 20-25 in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Efraimson collected 42 percent of the 383 votes cast to beat out Columbia River golfer Chloe Bartek, who had 25 percent.

Another big meet, another impressive performance for Efraimson. She won the Class 4A 1,600 with a state meet record of 4 minutes, 39.25 seconds, which is the fastest time in the country this season. Efraimson would also add the 800 title, also with a state meet record of 2 minutes, 8.17 seconds.

The other nominees were Skyview baseball player Ian Hamilton, Skyview girls tennis player Sammi Hampton, Camas boys golfer Brian Humphreys and Prairie boys track and field athlete Peter Zalk.

This concludes the 2012-13 high school season. Check back in September for our next round of prep athletes of the week.
