97-foot boat runs aground on Whidbey Island

GREENBANK — The Coast Guard says a 97-foot fishing boat has run aground in Puget Sound on the west side of Whidbey Island near Greenbank.

Petty Officer Zac Crawford says the Coast Guard received a call about 4 a.m. Tuesday from the master of the Neahkahnie.

The steel-hull vessel is aground, but there are no injuries to the three people aboard, no damage and no spillage of fuel.

The Coast Guard responded with a helicopter from Port Angeles and the cutter Swordfish out of Port Townsend and is monitoring the situation.

Crawford says the vessel will likely refloat during a high tide later in the day.
