Fire academy offers hands-on experience

Interested in fighting fires, using hydraulic tools to tear apart cars or helping simulated cardiac arrest patients? East County Fire & Rescue’s annual Citizen’s Fire & EMS Academy could be right up your alley. The academy runs 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 22 at Station 91, 600 N.E. 267th Ave., Camas. East County officers and firefighters will talk about running a fire district, explain how to use emergency equipment, and work students through drills.

Primarily a hands-on academy, students should wear work clothes and expect to sweat. Participants must sign liability releases. All safety gear will be provided — but not lunch.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age, in good health and in reasonably good physical condition. This free academy is limited to 10 students and registration closes at 5 p.m. June 17. For more information or to register, contact ECF&R at 360-834-4908 or
