A Broadway cab that was stolen in downtown Portland on Tuesday night was recovered hours later in Vancouver, Portland and Vancouver police said.

Portland police say that the Yellow Taxi was stopped on Naito Parkway near Morrison Street when a man ran up and assaulted the driver. When the driver got out of the cab to defend himself, the male suspect got behind the wheel and drove it the wrong way on the Morrison Bridge and onto Interstate 5 north.

Two female passengers and one male passenger in the cab got out before the man stole the car.

The cab was found at East 15th and Columbia streets at 11:54 p.m. Tuesday, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said. The suspect was not found Wednesday.

Portland police towed the cab to Portland for evidence.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 175 pounds, wearing a baseball cap, sleeveless shirt and tattooed arms.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Portland Police nonemergency line at 503-823-3333.
