CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox began a seven-game homestand Thursday without manager Robin Ventura.

Ventura was slated to miss both Thursday’s and Friday’s games against the visiting Oakland Athletics, being excused so that he could attend his daughter’s graduation in California.

Bench coach Mark Parent replaced Ventura as interim manager for Thursday’s game.

Ironically, Parent will be in the same position as Ventura. Parent will miss Friday’s game attending his son’s graduation.

Pitching coach Don Cooper will serve as interim manager for that game. Ventura is expected to be back in the dugout on Saturday.
