LONDON (AP) — IOC presidential candidate Thomas Bach says the Olympics risks losing young fans and viewers unless it sets up its own television channel to broadcast sports events during the years between the games.

Bach says “many Olympic sports do not appear enough across the world on TV” and need a dedicated network to promote their championships.

Bach says the project is a “vision” that needs study and negotiation but thinks it is “worthwhile.”

The German spoke to reporters in a conference call Friday about his campaign to succeed Jacques Rogge as president of the International Olympic Committee.

Bach, an IOC vice president, is one of six candidates in the race. Rogge steps down in September after 12 years in office.
