DETROIT (AP) — Cleveland Indians right-hander Carlos Carrasco has had his suspension for throwing at a hitter reduced from eight to seven games.

He began serving it Sunday. Carrasco was initially suspended for eight games in April for “intentionally throwing” at New York’s Kevin Youkilis but was able to keep pitching because an appeal was pending.

Carrasco was sent to the minors after his April 9 start against the Yankees. He was called back up and started Saturday’s game against Detroit.

The team said before Sunday’s game against the Tigers that Carrasco’s suspension had been reduced by a game. The Indians have an off day Thursday, so manager Terry Francona says the suspension shouldn’t force anyone to pitch on short rest.
