Letter: Immigrants are good for country

I have to reply to Robert Wassman’s June 5 letter, “Immigration bill is disastrous.” Where is the Heritage Foundation’s data that 11 million illegal immigrants will swell to 33 million if the current immigration bill passes? Which jobs are illegal immigrants taking from U.S. citizens? Do you know anyone who has lost his job to an illegal immigrant? If you do, the employer is the guilty party and should be reported to immigration services.

The use of the word “estimates” in the statement “The Heritage Foundation’s new report estimates that amnesty would cost taxpayers $6.3 trillion” makes their suggestion ludicrous. I have read a recent report in a lot of news sources stating that the dead-beat U.S. citizens are the ones who don’t pay their medical bills. And many stories have stated that Social Security taxes paid by illegal immigrants are keeping Social Security from sinking further.

But the last sentence of his letter is a beaut. He states “many of these immigrants are expected to receive far more from Social Security and Medicare than they’ll pay into it.” If he is a retired U.S. citizen, I know he has received exponentially more from Social Security and Medicare than he paid in.

Fresh blood is good for this country and it always has been.
