HELSINKI (AP) — Finland’s top prosecutor has charged 90 police officers and other officials with snooping into the files of a former Olympic cross-country ski champion who died two years ago.
Mika Myllyla died at 41 at home, reportedly after drinking for days. He won six Olympic medals but his life unraveled following a 2001 ban after testing positive for banned substances.
The Office of the Prosecutor General says it has looked into 150 suspected cases of breach of duty by people with access to police files about the death.
The agency said Monday most of the suspects have acknowledged accessing the files, but provided no other details. It wasn’t immediately clear what penalties the charges could incur.
