A father and his two sons who were overdue in returning home Tuesday evening from an off-road motorcycle excursion were found safe after a short search of an area north of Washougal.

Mark Snyder, 42, and his two sons, ages 7 and 10, of Camas, went motorcycle riding in the Jones Creek trail area about 2 p.m. Tuesday, Clark County Sgt. Fred Neiman said. The recreational area is designated for trail riding and owned by the state Department of Natural Resources.

They were expected back before dark, about 7:30 p.m., but the group did not return. A family member called 911 at 9:30 p.m.

Deputies found the man’s truck at the parking lot to the off-road vehicle area at 10 p.m. and the agency launched a search, which included aircraft and rescue volunteers.

By 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the three missing people were found safe.

Neiman did not know the reason that the group didn’t return home.
