KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Long Tan scored in the second minute, and third-division Orlando City SC beat defending champion Sporting Kansas City 1-0 Wednesday night to advance to the U.S Open Cup quarterfinals.

The Lions beat an MLS club in Cup play for the second straight time and will next face either Chicago or Columbus. It also marked the second time in three years for Sporting to be knocked out of the tournament by a USL PRO club.

Orlando City’s Miguel Gallardo made four saves, two a flurry at the 60-minute mark. He blocked C.J. Sapong’s close-in redirect, then made a diving save on Paulo Nagamura’s long follow-up.

Tan scored the game-winner on an assist from Adama Mbengue, putting the ball under Eric Kronberg and just inside the left post.

Teal Bunbury made his first appearance for Sporting since tearing his left ACL late last August, coming on as a 75th-minute substitute.
