TUMWATER — Police in Tumwater have arrested a state employee accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife.
Brian Cox was booked into jail Tuesday for investigation of criminal solicitation to commit murder. As he was led to jail, he told KIRO-TV in a video interview aired Tuesday night that he “did nothing wrong” and said he was being set up.
KOMO-TV reports that police began investigating the Department of Financial Institutions employee late last month after a confidential source told detectives that he had been offered money to kill the man’s wife.
Tumwater police Det. Jen Kolb says the couple is going through a divorce. The detective describes Cox’s estranged wife as “absolutely stunned and obviously devastated.”
Police did not discuss details of the alleged offense.
