A new six-lane cool-water swimming pool is the centerpiece of an $8 million upgrade and expansion of the Clark County Family YMCA in Orchards. Everyone is invited to the project’s groundbreaking, which is set for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 22, at 11324 N.E. 51st Circle in Vancouver.

Work is expected to take one year but will be done in phases so the facility can remain open throughout. It will grow from 45,000 square feet to 60,000 square feet, with expanded programs. In addition to the new pool, the concrete basketball courts will get wood floors, the outdoor patio area will be enclosed to become a multi-purpose space, and the facility will also get new weight and aerobic machines, new and updated locker rooms, expanded community rooms, child care areas, a new teen meeting center and an improved entry area.

The Clark County Family YMCA is a branch of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, which serves northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington. Visit ymcacw.org to learn more.
