BALTIMORE (AP) — Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has been sent back to Boston so doctors can examine him after an illness has kept him sidelined for several days.

Napoli was pulled in the third inning of Thursday night’s game against Baltimore. He has not played since.

Boston manager John Farrell said Saturday that Napoli is still experiencing “some of the grogginess and the symptoms that he was feeling the other night.” Napoli returned to Boston so team doctors can “try to get more information on what he’s dealing with.”

Farrell says: “There’s a pretty high level of confidence that he’s not dealing with anything concussion-related.”

Napoli has reached base safely in 14 straight games and is batting .262 with nine homers. His 49 RBIs through Friday were tied for the team lead with David Ortiz.
