Talking Points: One prep year over, another soon to begin

The Columbian

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Today marks the unofficial end of the high school year. In naming our all-region multi-sport athletes of the year, The Columbian closes the book on the 2012-13 prep season.

Congratulations to Heritage’s Tim Hergert and to Skyview’s Aubrey Ward-El, the best of the best in Clark County. And congratulations to all the local athletes who competed over the past nine months or so. Win or lose, you have made memories and learned lessons that will stay with you always.

Readers know that The Columbian spends a lot of time and energy and space in the newspaper covering local high school sports. Which brings up an important point — only 67 days until the start of practice for next year’s high school sports.

It’s been six years since the IndyCar circuit left Portland and we kind of miss it.

It became a Father’s Day tradition for many to sit in the sun (or rain) at Portland International Raceway.

But then the sport changed, the crowds thinned and another sporting event left the area.
