One of the many areas where the Vancouver City Council continues to spend taxpayer dollars is portrayed when it approves 10- and 12-year tax exemptions for certain developers, most recently a tax abatement for apartments to be built on the former Burgerville site.
This must be stopped, especially the expenditure of funds not yet available.
It's not the city's responsibility to insure the developer makes a profit. Any tax exemption allowed by the council places the additional burden on property owners to make up the difference.
We must make changes by electing a new mayor, along with new councilors for position 1 and position 3, during the upcoming primary and general elections. Be sure to exercise your right to vote.
