ASCOT, England (AP) — A horse owned by Queen Elizabeth II has won a first victory for a reigning British monarch in the signature race at Royal Ascot after Estimate won the Gold Cup on Thursday.
A 7-2 favorite, Estimate became the first filly to win the Gold Cup since Indian Queen in 1991.
It was the queen’s 22nd victory at Ascot, but the first in the Gold Cup, which is run over 2 miles and 4 furlongs.
Ryan Moore rode Estimate to a close victory over Simenon.
