PORTLAND — A federal judge in Oregon has begun hearings on a lawsuit against the federal government by 13 people who say they have been placed on the government’s secretive no-fly list.
The 13 argue they have been deprived of liberty and due process, and they’ve been smeared as terrorists.
The government argues that people on the no-fly list have options, such as sea and land travel.
At the Friday hearing, U.S District Court Judge Anna J. Brown said the government’s argument “seems fundamentally wrong.”
She said sea or land travel may not satisfy the need to visit a dying relative in time, and the plaintiffs “don’t have transporter rooms like `Star Trek.”‘
