Letter: Hiring process was abandoned

It seems to me that the appointment of Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, by Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke while ignoring the Clark County hiring process is at least misfeasance and maybe malfeasance. I believe that the appointment violates the equal opportunity and nondiscrimination policy of Clark County (County Nondiscrimination and Diversity Policies 3.1) in the most fundamental way, i.e., by not allowing qualified candidates the opportunity to be considered.

It is my hope that any potentially qualified applicants in the protected classes will bring their situation to the attention of the county’s human resource department.

Not posting the job opportunity is clearly outside of the county’s hiring process and any potentially qualified candidate would have a clear case of discrimination.

So, potential candidates for the director of the county’s environmental services director, please pursue your rights, and help end the arrogant, ignorant and potentially very expensive thought processes and actions of Madore and Mielke.
