WASHINGTON (AP) — Chris Pontius converted a minute penalty kick in the 11th minute to give the D.C. United a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night.

The victory was the first for D.C. United (2-11-3) since March 9 and snapped a club record 13-game winless streak.

San Jose (4-7-6) was shut out for the third time in four games and has now failed to score in each of its seven losses on the season.

For the second straight week D.C. United was able to take an early lead thanks to a kick from the spot.
