NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — The Atlantic 10 Conference says its Council of Presidents has extended Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade’s contract through 2018.

McGlade just completed her fifth season as the league’s commissioner and is credited with successfully guiding the conference through a turbulent period of conference realignment. The league added VCU and Butler in 2012, and when Butler and Xavier joined Temple in leaving after the season to join the newly constituted Big East, the league announced it would add George Mason in 2013 and Davidson in 2014.

Council of presidents chair Steven Knapp of George Washington University says the extension is “well-deserved” because McGlade has helped to enhance the A-10’s visibility while strengthening its commitment to “the ideal of the student-athlete.”

Financial terms of the extension were not released.
