Letter: County becoming a monarchy

The Columbian
Published: June 23, 2013, 5:00pm

Born in 1935, I have lived in Clark County all my life. Never before now have I felt as if I am being ruled by a monarchy.

It’s difficult to find words to adequately express my utter disgust and displeasure with our two Republican county commissioners, Tom Mielke and David Madore. Thinking that it is quite all right to circumvent county protocol by simply appointing a director of the county’s Environmental Services of their own choosing is beyond belief and absolutely despicable, particularly when their choice is a man clearly not qualified for the job. Furthermore, how can that person, state Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, with any kind of acuity, look himself in the mirror and say, “Yes, I will do this”?

I would like to add a sincere thank you to County Commissioner Steve Stuart for speaking his mind so clearly and, at the same time, speaking for a good share of the rest of us.
