Letter: Who is running what from where?

Now that Clark County Environmental Services Director Don Benton has been installed for a month, and given the current legislative session (which started in January and has no end in sight), I am left to wonder who is running Clark County’s department of environmental services.

I thought the emergency, rule-bending approach used to get the current director installed was because of an urgent need to fill the position for the spring/summer building season. With Benton’s current commitment to the Legislature as a state senator, it is my opinion that the explanation from the commissioners as to the necessity of filling this position immediately was intentionally deceptive.

I used to follow the county commissioners’ meetings but have completely lost faith in our commissioners and welcome the changes that will occur in a home rule charter.
