ESTACADA, Ore. — A Portland man who fell over a 50-foot cliff in the Mount Hood National Forest while looking for his dog suffered leg injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The Oregonian reported that 56-year-old Richard Shaw was in fair condition Monday.

His wife flagged down a motorist Saturday evening to drive into cellphone range so she could call 911.

Shaw fell while looking for the couple’s dog, Lacy May.

Rescuers found Shaw in the Fish Creek area off Oregon 224, southeast of Estacada.

The dog was found a short time later at the base of another drop-off and was rescued by Oregon Humane Society Technical Animal Rescue. Lacy May had no major injuries and was able to go home.
