De Rosario scores in United’s 2-1 win over Revs

BOYDS, Md. (AP) — Dwayne De Rosario’s tie-breaking second-half goal helped D.C. United to a 3-1 victory over the New England Revolution in Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal.

Chris Pontius scored before halftime for United, which will make its ninth semifinals appearance during the club’s 18-year history. D.C. won the competition in 1996 and 2008.

Lionard Pajoy added a late penalty kick goal for D.C., which will travel to face the winner of Wednesday’s quarterfinal between the Chicago Fire and Orlando City SC on Aug. 7.

Juan Toja scored for New England, which was seeking its first semifinals appearance in the competition since losing to D.C. in 2008.
