Sixth-graders get a closer look at nature

Washougal — Canyon Creek Middle School sixth-graders explored the wonders of nature this month during outdoor school. Through a partnership with Friends of the Gorge, the Washougal School District sent more than 80 students exploring Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge near Washougal and Beacon Rock State Park in Stevenson, for two days. During the field trips, kids went on nature walks to learn about the animals and plants that inhabit the area. They also helped remove invasive weeds.
