Family: Pistorius to start ‘low-key’ track routine

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Oscar Pistorius’ family says the double-amputee runner has decided to resume a “low-key track routine” to help him prepare for his murder trial in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

In a statement posted on Pistorius’ website and dated Thursday, the family says Pistorius is not contemplating any “formal” return to athletics and the training is not aimed at preparing for competition.

The family says the Olympian’s focus “remains entirely on the court case,” but he has been encouraged by people close to him to spend a few hours a week running on a track to help him “process his trauma.”

Pistorius has been seen just once at an athletics track since the Feb. 14 killing of Reeva Steenkamp at his house, for which he was charged with premeditated murder.
