PITTSBURGH (AP) — Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Corey Hart will have surgery to repair torn ligaments in his right knee next week and miss the remainder of the season. He had yet to play this year because of surgery on his left knee in January.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Friday that Hart will undergo the surgery sometime next week in Los Angeles, though the date has not been set and he did not have information on the exact nature of the injury. The 31-year-old Hart averaged 29 home runs over the last three seasons. In nine major-league seasons, all with the Brewers, Hart has hit .276 with 154 homers in 945 games.

Milwaukee also activated rookie right-hander Hiram Burgos from the 15-day disabled list and optioned him to Triple-A Nashville prior to Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He had been out since May 24 with a right shoulder impingement.

Burgos, 25, was 1-2 with a 6.44 ERA in six starts.
