Davis leads James Madison vs. William & Mary 69-67

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP) — A.J. Davis scored a career-best 36 points and Devon Moore hit a pair of go-ahead free throws with 19 seconds left as James Madison swept William & Mary 69-67 in each team’s regular-season finale Saturday night.

The Dukes (17-14, 11-7 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 65-59 with 2:38 left, but a dunk by Davis sparked an 8-0 run for a 67-65 lead with 1:07 remaining.

The Tribe’s Tim Rusthoven tied it 67-67 with a layup with 48 seconds left. After Moore hit his foul shots, Marcus Thornton missed a 3-pointer for William & Mary with 5 seconds remaining, and James Madison grabbed the rebound to end it.

The win snapped the Dukes’ two-game losing streak.

Davis was averaging 10.4 points entering Saturday, though he’d managed 17.8 points per contest over his past six games.

Rusthoven and Thornton paced William & Mary (13-16, 7-11) with 20 points apiece.
