ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Matt Townsend scored 19 points to help Yale win back-to-back games for just the third time this season, beating Ivy League foe Cornell 79-70 Saturday night.

Morgan Austin added 15 points, Brandon Sherrod tallied 13 points and nine rebounds, and Greg Kelley chipped in 10 points, including a 3-pointer that gave Yale an early 7-3 lead.

The Bulldogs (12-17, 6-6) stretched that lead to 24-9 on a Sherrod jumper a little over 7 minutes later and Cornell never threatened from there.

Yale shot 55 percent (24 of 51) in the opening frame while holding Cornell to just eight made shots. Cornell (13-16, 5-7) controlled the boards 42-33 but committed 21 fouls, allowing the Bulldogs to score 25 points from the charity stripe.

Errick Peck and Nolan Chemerinski scored 19 points apiece for Cornell, which shot just 37 percent (26 of 70) overall and allowed 13 points off 10 turnovers.
