Letter: Classify new medal below Bronze

The Columbian

The Pentagon is considering awarding a Distinguished Warfare Medal to drone pilots. With all due respect, I believe there is a bit of insanity in the Pentagon to even consider ranking this “Medal” above the Bronze Star. I have no objection to a medal being cast for this service but surely its ranking is questionable.

The word “pilots” in the naming of this medal suggest that they are rated personnel, which may be clouding the vision of those who are proposing this medal and its ranking. Surely ranking the medal at or below the Bronze Star level would be less objectionable, even though, in my opinion, it does not meet the qualification required for the Bronze Star.
