AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Zeke Marshall scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Akron wrapped up its second consecutive Mid-American Conference regular-season title Tuesday night by defeating Miami (Ohio) 72-58.
Nick Harney scored 13 points and Alex Abreu added 12 points and seven assists for the Zips (24-5, 14-1), who bounced back from an 81-67 loss to Buffalo on Saturday that ended their 19-game winning streak.
Abreu’s 3-pointer 21 seconds into the second half started a 13-2 run that gave Akron a 44-30 lead with 14:54 remaining.
The RedHawks (8-20, 3-12), who have lost eight in a row, got to within 54-46 with 8:56 left on a 3-pointer by Jon Harris, but Akron opened up a 15-point lead over the next 1:13 on a 3 by Reggie McAdams, a layup by Marshall and two free throws by Demetrius Treadwell.
Harris led Miami with 21 points and was 4 of 6 on 3-pointers.
