James Nosack of Vancouver scored his ninth goal of the season on Sunday to help the Portland Timbers Academy under-18 squad to a 3-1 win over Nomads FC in San Diego.

On Saturday, goalkeeper Collin Partee of Camas recorded the shutout in a 1-0 win over Surf FC at San Diego Polo Club. The Timbers Academy under-18s have won three consecutive road games.

On Feb. 23, two goals from Timur Zhivdze of Vancouver gave the Timbers Academy U-18s a 2-0 win over San Juan Soccer Club at Mather, Calif. Partee recorded that shutout as well.

Clark County players led the Timbers Academy under-16 team to a 6-0 win over Nomads FC on Sunday in San Diego. Jacob Kempf of Camas and Peter Prescott of Vancouver each scored two goals, and Matt Palodichuk of Vancouver tallied his second goal of the season as the Timbers Academy U-16s won their third game in a row.

Kempf and Palodichuk each scored on Feb. 23 in a 3-1 win against San Juan Soccer Club in California.

After a stretch of 11 consecutive road games dating to early November, the two Timbers Academy teams will play nine of their final 10 matches of the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season at the Adidas Timbers Training Center in Beaverton, beginning on March 16-17.

High school rugby season starts Saturday

The Prairie High School rugby team won all three of its matches at the final preseason tournament played on Saturday in Camas.

Prairie rallied from a 10-0 deficit in the final 14 minutes to defeat North Clackamas 15-10, then beat Bend 7-0 and West Linn 7-0.

Tyler Duncan, Cody Flores and Tyler Didericksen led the tackle count for Prairie. Colton Prestwich scored twice and Jacob George scored a try to put Prairie ahead in the West Linn match.

Prairie plays its first league match of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurin Middle School against Oregon City.

New this year, high school teams in Oregon Youth Rugby’s Varsity Premiership must represent only one high school. Battle Ground and Prairie are the two schools from Clark County in that division. Battle Ground opens the regular season at Canby High School at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The former Camas team is now a Clark County entry in the Club Championship league for teams of players from multiple high schools. Clark County kicks off the regular season by hosting Westside Alliance at 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Middle School.

Battle Ground has the only Clark County team in the 2013 Oregon Youth Rugby girls league. Battle Ground will play at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Laurin Middle School against Reynolds.
