ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Sebastian Koch scored 15 points and Lucas Troutman posted a double-double as Elon defeated UNC Greensboro 68-61 in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference tournament Saturday.
Troutman had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Ryley Beaumont scored 12 and Jack Isenbarger 11 for the second-seeded Phoenix (21-10), who had won five of seven coming in, including an 80-66 victory over 10th-seeded UNCG in the regular-season finale.
Trevis Simpson scored 16 points, Kelvin McNeil had 10 and Derrell Armstrong grabbed 11 rebounds with eight points for the Spartans (9-22).
Leading 31-29 at the break, the Phoenix scored eight straight points to open the second half, including three-point plays by Troutman and Koch, to take a 39-29 advantage only 2:59 in.
They maintained a six-point or better advantage until Armstrong’s layup to close to 61-57 with 1:02 remaining.
The Phoenix knocked down 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
