PORTLAND — Police say a man was taken into custody following a traffic crash in southeast Portland that killed two people.

The two victims in the crash Saturday evening have been identified as 55-year-old Paul Lawrence Knepper and his 90-year-old mother Hazel Agnes Knepper.

A police statement says that investigators have learned that a Cadillac SUV went through a stop sign and hit the Toyota Corolla driven by Paul Knepper.

Three people in the SUV fled on foot, but a 29-year-old man suspected of being the driver was later taken into custody.

Police say Daniel Troy Johnson is facing two counts of second-degree manslaughter and other charges including DUII. The two others haven’t been found.

A fourth person in the SUV, who remained at the scene, was hospitalized with injuries not believed to by life-threatening.
