Military vets may get Washington license designation

OLYMPIA — Military veterans in Washington state may soon get an easier way to prove their service.

A bill approved by the state Senate on Friday would allow former members of the armed forces to get a designation on their driver's license. The veterans would have to prove their status to the Department of Licensing by showing their official military discharge document.

Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, says veterans want an easier way to prove their history without carrying the paper record. The bill now goes to the House.
