BELLINGHAM — The Whatcom County sheriff’s office says one man was stabbed during a fight outside a girls’ basketball tournament on Saturday.

The Bellingham Herald reports 32-year-old Larry D. Fenner was arrested a short distance from Mount Baker High School in Deming. He was booked into Whatcom County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault.

Sgt. Scott Huso says that Fenner and another man were attending the basketball tournament when they got into an argument outside the gym over a past debt.

Huso says the argument escalated into a fistfight, and one man pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the other in the left shoulder.

The second man had minor injuries that were not life-threatening.
