The Vancouver nonprofit Pink Lemonade Project is hosting various activities to celebrate BRAVE Day on March 21.

BRAVE (Breast Restoration AdVocacy Education) Day celebrations aim to draw attention to the 1998 Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act, which requires group health plans and insurance companies to provide coverage for reconstructive services relating to a mastectomy.

Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt will proclaim March 21 as BRAVE Day during a city council meeting tonight.

BRAVE Day events include a Legacy Bra Signing Event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. March 21 at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center, 19300 S.W. 65th Ave. in Tualatin, Ore. Monica Carlson, season one winner of “American Gladiators” and a former Portland Trailblazers dancer, will sign bras and lead a mini-fit session. The event also include music, raffles, food and a keynote speaker. Call 503-699-9464 to reserve a spot.

Some other events include: pink Jello shots and BRAVE Day shot glasses for sale at Shanahan’s Pub & Grill, 209 W. McLoughlin Blvd. in Vancouver; Alaska Airlines will offer passengers “Know your rights” bookmarks and pink bracelets; and Roots Restaurant & Bar, 19215 S.E. 34th St., will donate 10 percent of proceeds to Pink Lemonade Project.
