SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Yovani Gallarado was strong in his return to the Brewers from the World Baseball Classic, retiring 12 straight batters after giving up a leadoff home run in Milwaukee’s 7-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.

Gallardo, back from a weekend stint with Team Mexico, struck out five in four innings after Gerardo Parra’s solo home run to open the bottom of the first. Parra also had a two-run double in Arizona’s four-run sixth inning.

It was Parra’s first game back with the Diamondbacks since playing for Venezuela at the WBC, along with catcher Miguel Montero and third baseman Martin Prado.

Arizona’s Randall Delgado pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out four.

Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz struck out two in a scoreless fifth inning. Brewers closer John Axford, back from his time with Canada at the WBC, struck out one in a scoreless inning.
